Now that we have travelled inland for almost a week, we start test drilling some of the lakes to check if the ice is safe enough to walk on. Even though the winter has been bad in terms of little snow, the temperatures seems to have been cold, cause the ice is mostly over a meter thick. This is very good news for us, since we then can travel much more efficiently using the frozen lakes. We only need to be aware of lakes where water levels are regulated, places where there are currents or where rivers run in and out of lakes. Studying the maps and weather will mostly give you the information that you need, but also talking with locals and contacting the companies running the power dams will give you valuable information. Making it possible to travel safely on the ice, even on lakes where the water levels are regulated.
